What is the difference between the 700R4 in my 2.8 and the 350's? I've been told its just the input and output shafts. Mine seems to be fine, I'm just curious. Also, how hard are they to rebuild at home? I've got an extra one also.

automatic transmissions rebuilds dificulties on a scale of 1 to 10 its an 8, seriously you need proper specialized tools, there are tons of parts, its pretty complicated, and you need a solvent tank or something equivilant and air pressure ;D

rebuilding a motor would be about the same amount of work

Well the casing is all one piece so the bellhousing from a V6 wont bolt to a V8.

Alright, then why do they call it a 700r4 if it ain't the same???

And are you saying its the same as rebuilding a motor in difficulty or time? I've taken apart plenty of motors but never a tranny. I want to try. I'm a glutton for punishment ;D

motor = like 40 pieces
tranny= like 300 pieces

its all hydraulics, pretty complicated stuff, lots of parts. its difficult, ive done my fair share with help and its about a 2 day job for a novice min. at 5-6 hours a day, not inc. re and re. an expert with all the proper tools at his disposal can do like 2 a day but thats expert. if you must do it, get a 700 book, you'll need it 100% garunteed

p.s. taking it apart is the easier part, rebuilding it and putting it together is the hard part

I know what you mean! Every time I put something back together I end up with a can of extra screws ::) .... j/k ;D

Thanks for the advice. I'll hold off on a tranny rebuild for now.
